I originally planned to write this two weeks ago. But when I had it written two weeks ago, it would have said something completely different.
God's will is a funny thing. We spend so much time trying to figure out what He has for us - only to get mad or upset when we find out what that is.
It was never a question in my mind that I would lead a team of 16 people again, that was just what I thought I was supposed to do. So when roadblocks started happening in the process of planning for this trip, I started to get really discouraged and confused. I started to get frustrated with God and frustrated with the people around me.
But through some long talks and serious thoughts, we at One Love His Love have come to this conclusion - we will not be taking a big (16) team this year.
We LOVED last year's team. I mean LOVED them. It was such a sweet time. But it was also a learning experience. We were a baby non-profit and I had never lead a team of that magnitude before. We had ups and downs and I have never learned so much in a small amount of time.
Going into this year and the future, we want to be incredibly focused with our teams. We don't just want to take people to Kenya JUST to go. It's a lot of money and we want to be sure that we are helping the community, not hurting it.
So going into this trip, we are going to keep it very small. 10 is the max amount of people that we are allowing and we are asking for people that are very mature in their faith and life. These restrictions require that no one can be under the age of 21 and we will have interviews if it's your first out of the country mission trip. This trip will be intense spiritually, emotionally, and physically, and we want to be sure that God has you there.
I really want everyone to experience Kenya - it's beautiful, it's loving, and it's my favorite place in the world but I don't want you coming unless God has called you there.
I would rather have 5 people who God has provided and called for than 16 who just came cause they wanted to.
That being said - if you would like to come this year this is what the trip will focus on. We will have teaching at the school, working on the rehab center, and medical clinics throughout the village. Only those specialties are what we can coordinate right now.
Also - this team will be very small, meaning maturity is important. We are looking for people who can not only take care of themselves but also be compassionate for others. We need you to be able to work in a team and be considerate of the people around you. You will be trying food you've never eaten before, sleeping in a bed that's not yours, and traveling all over the world with people you might not know very well.
I know God will bring the right people on this trip and we are super excited to have you all come. If you will not be coming to Kenya with us this year can I ask that you pray for all those considering the trip, those of us in power, and the nation of Kenya? Kenyans hold a very dear place in my heart and I want everything we do to pour out love for them.
All that being said - if you are coming, email me at - firstname.lastname@example.org and I will get a trip packet in your hands.
